Annie interviews Derek Galkin because they are friends.

You’ve spent the majority of your career in fashion. Why the switch to wine?

Over the past 20 years I feel like I have touched most every aspect of the fashion world. After the successful sale of my footwear brand SeaVees I am ready for a new challenge. I have been extremely fortunate to spend my entire career working in worlds that peak my interest and passions. Wine is the next chapter.

Desert island albums?

Not putting a limit on quantity would allow me an endless list. For the sake of this interview I will keep it to a top 5. OK 6 or 7:
U2 - Boy
The Police - Ghost In The Machine
The Smiths - Meat Is Murder
Hugh Masekela - The Boy’s Doin It
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
New Order - Substance
Sade - Lovers Rock (I hope Jenna, my wife, is on the island w/ me)

I know you love cars, if the 2014 ROOM Pinot noir were a car, which one would it be?

The timeless profile of a Porsche 993 mixed with the rugged earthy nature of a Toyota FJ60.

So Cal or Nor Cal?

Central California por vida.

What are you known for?

I’m not sure. Never really asked anyone. I hope I am known for being a good father, husband, son, and friend. Someone that handles business with integrity (no matter what) creates from the heart and delivers on his commitments.

Considering your voracious ice cream habit, if you could create your own flavor what would it be?

No question: Banana Raspberry Swirl with Ground Espresso Beans. Flavor and texture all in one.
